Bees
This week as part of our mini beast topic we have been learning about bees and how they pollinate the flowers.
We took part in a science experiment.
We have written an information report about an insect of our choice. Played insect games such as don’t get caught in the spiders web and ladybird bean bag toss. Used beads to solve number sentences on the bee part, part whole model and lots of other things too.
Forest Fun Friday
This week during forest school we talked about the changes we could observe in nature and how the forest is a lot greener than it was before. We then discussed how we need to trim back some of the twigs and branches so we are able to walk in there safely. Miss Jones demonstrated how to use the scissors safely for this purpose. We had a big discussion on safety! How to walk when carrying something sharp. How to hold the scissors safely when walking. The children worked hard in the forest school today!

Caterpillars and Butterflies
This week as part of our mini beast topic we have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly.
We have read the story by Eric Carle called ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’
We used this story to put the days of the week into order too.
Children have retold the story, made up their own stories, made the life cycle of a butterfly at the creation station, looked at symmetry and doubled the patterns on a butterflies wings. There have been lots of activities linked to this week’s theme for the children to participate in.
We even had a go at moving like different insects.

Incy Wincy Spider
This week as part of our mini beast topic we have been learning about SPIDERS!
We have learnt that spiders are not insects but arachnids. They have eight legs and only two body parts. They lay lots of eggs which hatch into baby spiders called spiderlings.
We have read the story by Eric Carle called ‘The Very Busy Spider’ and sang the nursery rhyme Incy Wincy Spider.
During the week we have made up our own spider stories and acted them out.
Made webs on the painting table and creation station.
Caught spiders at the funky Fingers table and at the tuft spot.
Labelled spiders, made spiders, counting spiders and other activities too!
