We have learnt that when preparing for Chinese New Year, Chinese people always give their houses a good clean to get rid of anything bad and they put up lots of decorations. We have been preparing for our Chinese New Year celebrations by cleaning our home corner!
We have also written good luck messages in Chinese, we have drawn Chinese decorations and we have made our own Chinese dragons and fans.
This week we have been learning all about Chinese New Year. We have re-enacted the story of the Zodiac and we have enjoyed finding out what animal year we were born in. We discovered that the children were born in the year of the Ox or the year of the Tiger, Mrs Hill was born in the year of the rat, Mrs Murphy was born in the year of the dragon and Mrs Horsley was born in the year of the snake.
Lots of children have brought in space related items this week. It has been lovely to see so many children taking such an interest in our topic. The Swans particularly enjoyed listening to Joey talk about his new lift the flap space book and we loved Megan’s creativity making her doll into an astronaut!
This week we continued our learning about space outside in the forest. We collected sticks and we joined them together to make stars just like the stars that twinkle in our night sky. It was very tricky but we persevered. Initially we hung our stars in the trees but now they are hanging in our classroom. They look wonderful. Come and take a look.
